Call for participants in activity for detecting and control of forest pests and diseases

We are looking for 25 young people (13-18 years old) from municipality of Botevgrad willing to participate in an activity for detecting and control of forest pests and diseases. The event will take place from 16th to 18th November 2020 in Etropole.

During the activity the participants:

  • will get acquainted with the most common forest pests and diseases (insects and fungal pathogens) and will learn what silvicultural activities are used to improve the health status of forests;
  • will visit different types of forests which are in bad health, where together with experts they will do field research to detect the main pests and pathogens there;
  • will observe use of a drone for remote monitoring of the health status of a forest, assessment of damage from pests and diseases and mapping of the affected areas;
  • will discuss with experts on pest control methods and appropriate silvicultural systems for management of the investigated forests;
  • will learn about application of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and MAES (Mapping and assessment of forest ecosystem services);
  • will receive a certificate for their participation;
  • will study and have fun together.
