International youth seminar “Youth participating by a hectare”

Eight members of YMDRAB participated in the MIJARC Europe international seminar “Youth participating by a hectare”. This activity took place from 3rd to 6th December 2020 and was organised as an international seminar with young participants gathering face-to-face in small, national groups and connecting online with their peers from 10 different countries. The Bulgarian group was brought together in “Aura” Hotel in Velingrad.

The seminar was focused on helping the participants and the youth organisations involved to identify appropriate measures and practices to increase youth participation in decision-making and policy development about sustainable agriculture at local level AND to encourage youth involvement in a pan-European campaign on food supply chains.

During the seminar the participants explored the Revised European Charter on the Participation of Young People in Local and Regional Life, ways to get involved in agricultural policies, fair and sustainable food supply chains and the related ethical issues, European policies on youth and agriculture. Also, they worked together on development of ideas for increasing the involvement of young people in shaping policies on sustainable agriculture at local level and takes the voice of young people to European level.

The seminar is a journey that all Bulgarian participants will remember for a long time. They succeed in getting more involved and gaining more knowledge in the field of important issues connected to agriculture. What is more, they were able to become more aware and took an active part in the activities and in the 3 workshops organized by MIJARC Europe. Each of the days was filled with interesting topics and everyone had the opportunity to share their opinion. But most of all, the young people realized that their voice was heard and that knowledge is in the first place when the goal is a change and a better future, which is only in our hands.

This project is co-financed by the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe, by the European Commission and by Renovabis.
