Cleaning and processing of collected fruits and seeds - ostensibly simple task ... but not quite!

Very quickly we found that the forest business and afforestation activities are numerous specific and special aspects. In this we were convinced after the trainer explained that you can not just sow the collected seeds.

It certainly can, but there will be absolutely no result so far our efforts. So now we had to learn what this “seed peace” and when and how to implement a “Pre-sow preparation”:

I. “Seed peace” – quickly we  realized that this is the normal state of mature forest seeds in which germination ability does not occur or is delayed. According to the nature of determine factors the peace in forest seeds can be of different types - forced, physical, chemical, morphological, physiological, combined.

II. "Pre-sow preparation”- to increase the percentage of germination of our seed we had to make their preparation for sow. Furthermore, it would also ensure better growth and sustainability of young  saplings. For this purpose, we cleaned the collected seeds, sorted them by type and removed the poor and degraded. Then we have removed those parts which contain substances with inhibitory effects on germination - tegument, pericarp, and etc. We implemented a disinfection and  treatment  with insecticides and repellents.
Many new things we learned in this activity, and although in the beginning everything seemed to us strange and unfamiliar, quickly we got used and ultimately we have quite fun.
