The Voice of Youth - The Voice of Change!

From 20th to 27th August 2013, 27 rural young people from municipality of Botevgrad participated in project "The Voice of Youth - The Voice of Change!", which took place on in the “youth capital” of Bulgaria, namely Varna. The participants were involved in a 7 days collaborative work with representatives of local authorities, National and European youth NGOs. They worked together in order to creat a common vision on active involvment of rural youth in the democratic life and decision-making at all levels.

During the whole activity they worked together with two experts from our institutional partners:

- One representative of the local authority namely Municipality of Botevgrad (www.botevgrad.org), which is the institution responsible for youth policy, youth involvment and decision-making at local level;

- The President of the European youth movement of rural youth MIJARC Europe (www.mijarc.net).

The young people had meetings and discussions with a representative of the National Youth Forum of Bulgaria (www.nmf.bg) which is the largest youth association in Bulgaria including 35 youth organisations. During the activity the participants visited a Youth Center and a local youth project in city of Varna, and they had a Round table with experts and youth workers from Varna Municipality (www.varna.bg).

Non-formal educational approach was used during the whole collaborative work. Were used activities as working groups, role plays, simulations, discussions, presentations, creative workshops, outside exercises, ect.

In the end of the project activity a common Position Paper was created by all the participants. This document address the main challenges of rural youngsters, the demands they have from politicians and authorities as well as the potential role of young people and youth organisations in fulfilling these demands. The Position Paper presents the opinion of the participants in three main fields, namely:

1/ Democracy and Youth Participation

2/ Social Inclusion of young people

3/ Youth in diverse societies

Despite the hard work the young people took time for a lot of funny activities like different thematic evenings, energizers, flash mob on the beach and seaside entertainment.
